Mardi Grape - Purple as a Neutral
One of our favorite color experts Kiki Titterud had shared in an article that CMG’s (Color Marketing Group) 2010 Next Color was selected and it was Mardi Grape! Mardi Grape is a crossover of purple, brown and gray. Who knew that purple could be considered a neutral color. It is starting to show up... what do you think? Is it for you?

Celebrating the Good Things in this World

All changes are more or less tinged with melancholy, for what we are leaving behind is part of ourselves. Amelia Barr
I don't know about you but I sometimes feel a little melancholy as I put away the Christmas decorations. It may be because they represent special times with friends and family - all the joy and laughter that comes so easily at this time of year. I've decided that I am resolving myself to enjoy it this year!
My hope in the following year is make a conscious decision to enjoy and take time to celebrate the good things in this world and to live with a passion everyday! And I wish the same for you!

There are so many wonderful blogs and I am looking forward to a wonderful new year filled with inspiring ideas for us all - my fellow bloggers!
Let's start celebrating! As Martha would say... It's A Good Thing.

From now on our troubles will be miles away.....

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas! A favorite Christmas Carol of mine...
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on
our troubles will be miles away.
Ok! I'll stop singing now-- head on over and see our lovelies to make the yuletide gay!

Making The Most of Your Living Room

Your room should have a focal point and fireplaces are the perfect natural candidate as they bring a feeling of comfort to your room, but if there is no fireplace you will need to create your centerpiece. You might hang an oversized piece of art or feature a beautiful piece of furniture. Color can be a simple solution to creating your focal point, whether it is a wall color or one just one color used as an accent around the room.
When considering lighting for your room, you’ll need to accommodate activities such as reading as well as resting activities.
Seating selection should be appropriate for everyone in your family; comfort is much more important to consider than style. Consider seating that makes everyone feel relaxed and at ease. Don’t forget to mix up the textures when you select your textiles.
Experiment with the furniture layout- If space allows, consider introducing a second seating area. A great solution to connect different areas of the room is to use backless seating such as a chaise or bench to allow viewing from one part of the room to the other.
Careful consideration should be given to storage. Be sure to plan for housing your media equipment. Not to say that the television has to be hidden, but do hide the wires! Nothing is less relaxing than mess, clutter and exposed wiring.
Is your design easy to maintain? Remember that your room is for living and not for show. Let your hair down and enjoy living your everyday life.
Commit the room’s design to paper, even if your budget doesn’t allow completion of the project all at once. You will benefit from the vision as you make future purchases.

Be Mine

Valentine's Day is only 12 days away! I love simple floral arrangements- preferably with just one type of flower and presented in a striking vase. I don't think anything says romance like flowers! This clean lined vase allows the flowers to get the attention they deserve. It is the Fluvio vase from 18K and is available for purchase online right here. What's more, when you tire of the flowers you can pop in a candle and still have admiration for the beauty of the ceramic glassware.

Celebrating the Small Stuff
I know in the scheme of life, decorating is "the small stuff" but it brings joy and is a cause for celebration at my house! I thought I would share with you that I have been working on my living room and dining room for a few months-(in baby steps- a little bit at a time). I don't know about you but for myself when selecting furnishings for my home, I like to take my time and live in the room and let it evolve. Well, for the last couple of months we have been without window treatments in these 2 rooms and I feel relatively sure the neighbors have grown tired of seeing us on display! This past weekend the window treatments arrived and were installed and we are thrilled as are the neighbors! If you are familiar with Kelly Hoppen Home: From Concept to Reality you will have seen this style. I just loved it and wanted it in my home so I selected it for the living room. I just wonder if she had as much fun tying the knot as I did!

These are the silk panels in the dining room- (still have to get the wrinkles out) but I find them lovely!

Do you celebrate "the small stuff"? If so, please share!!

Christmas- Pure & Simple
This Christmas at my house, we are celebrating in a simple, natural style. I decided to mix natural elements with mercury glass and chose olive green as the featured color since it is a true color from nature.
We are going to celebrate the reason for the season and enjoy the bounty that we have been blessed with. So to start, here is a simple crèche on the mantel.
These are acorns that were gathered on a nature walk a couple of weeks ago in the woods down at the lake. I just love them-- but I will tell you that I had to freeze them prior to putting them out-- just to be on the safe side--I didn't want any little critters coming out to enjoy themselves in the warmth of my house!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and are able to keep it simple so that you can enjoy it to it's fullest!
