Make a Referral - jump start the economy

I'm pledging to make a referral to a business I want to help as part of a national campaign to make 1000 referrals March 9-13. What a great small business stimulus plan.

Paint by number

You can't turn on the television or the radio without Obama's stimulus plan being the hottest topic in the news, so this post is dedicated to the number as art.

Artist Jasper Johns

This dining room is designed by Richard Winsberg as was featured in California Homes. It features a series of number drawings by Jasper Johns. Jasper Johns is a great American contemporary artist. In doing a little research on him I discovered that at the age of 24 he destroyed all of his artwork and decided to "stop becoming, and to be an artist. " He realized that life should not just be inspiring sometimes. But instead, it is one's state of mind that perceives the purity and value of moment-to-moment life as variable. He doesn't express raw emotion inspired by experiences. He believes that only the existence of art on an impersonal level can create new experiences for the viewer..

This landing showcases the number series also. It was featured in a post by Mrs. Blandings and was designed by Mariette Himes Gomez and featured in Architectural Digest.

Random Numbers

I love this bold kitchen with the number 16 having such visual impact. This was featured on Material Girl's post and is from Domino magazine. I don't think the kitchen would be the same without this bold number in the room. It seems to give it vitality and energy.

The living room is also from the same post- and just like Material Girl, I wonder- What is the significance of the numbers to the homeowner as they are visually agressive in the room's design.

Feeling Uneasy?

In times of transition and unease, people seem to spend more time at home and want to turn those homes into cocoons of security and warmth. These photos from Eric Roth show rooms that exude calmness, quietness and harmony. I love how he captures the feeling even though each room has a totally different look! Visit his website for even more!

sham-pahg-nee and champs ulysses

"Why don't you go to France? Then you can drink "sham-pahg-nee" and eat "champs ulysses"..." Robespierre from the movie Gay Purr-ee

Ah to get away from it all---Wouldn't it be so nice to sneak off to this lovely apartment designed by Jean-Louis Deniot? It resides in Parc Monceau, Paris which is described as a favorite resting place for those looking for some peace and quite away from the busy city.

Art for Impact

Art can certainly make a large impact in a room. Here multiple contemporary art pieces are used in this traditionally furnished dining room.

Symmetrically hung artwork makes an impact as in this example of artwork in an entry way.

This really caught my eye- I love the coloring, but also love that the sofa is arranged under the artwork rather than the usual way - with the artwork balanced within the width of the sofa.

And last but not least-- One large impacting piece of art used in a small area.

Be Mine

Valentine's Day is only 12 days away! I love simple floral arrangements- preferably with just one type of flower and presented in a striking vase. I don't think anything says romance like flowers! This clean lined vase allows the flowers to get the attention they deserve. It is the Fluvio vase from 18K and is available for purchase online right here. What's more, when you tire of the flowers you can pop in a candle and still have admiration for the beauty of the ceramic glassware.
