The Land Down Under

I am now ready to continue my look at design around the world. Today's selection comes from - I'm sure you already know- Australia.

The entrance to this residence is stunning! I love the intricate pattern of the ironwork played against the delicate chandelier. It certainly piqued my interest.

The artwork in the dining area certainly commands attention!

I find the living area to be a little bland ( it could just be the angle of the photo- because it looks as though there is some colorful artwork) . I do like the sheer window treatment against the hardwood flooring.

This is my absolute favorite home office ever! But then again, I do like red. I like the play of the dark wood of the shelving with the lighter shutter treatment.

I found the bedroom to be very serene. Quite relaxing.

Here is the other side of the room with red to stimulate visual interest.

This wonderful residence was designed by Nexus Designs of Melbourne.

Monday

Design for Mankind

I was so excited to receive a package over the weekend. I ordered a terrific Inspirational Poster from Erin at Design for Mankind's etsy store and it arrived! If you haven't had a chance to take a peek- go now- they are super! And she also has a terrific blog! Here is my new poster on my new inspiration board! I'm smiling!

Saturday

Christ's Passion

Happy Easter!

When the dogwoods bloom in the spring, the blossoms resemble crosses. Each petal bears a mark like a nail print on its outermost edge, and the circle in the center of each flower suggests the crown of thorns. The dogwood blossom, then, becomes a beautiful symbol for Christ's Passion.

Sunday

Easter Eggs, Naturally

I found this photo and video via How About Orange and just loved the beautiful eggs by Chris at Curbly and wanted to share them. There are more examples and written instructions from Chris Curbly. I think I have found a project to tackle! Let me know if any of you try it and would like to share your photos.

Saturday

When the Moon Hits Your Eye

Like a Big Pizza Pie.. That's Amore! And do I love this home designed by Prima Design . It is on Salina Island of the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Italy and it is a beauty.
The white and natural brown coloring begins with the exterior.

Minimal color with lots of texture makes this an optimal spot for al Fresco dining!
Peeking inside....

I have to say that although I love this house... I would be terribly afraid to entertain small children in this space.

These wood vessels are simply beautiful!
This dining room has such charm but the open shelving certainly requires one to be very very neat!

The master bedroom... I think speaks for itself!

Sunday

Beautiful Haiti

I thought I would share a video of a wonderful selection of different interiors from Haiti as presented by Printo1. It is called Interior Design of Haiti and is a collage of many different interiors. Enjoy!

Thursday

Happy Weekend!

I thought I would share a little springtime inspiration for the weekend. The Design Around The World tour will continue next week, until then enjoy!

Saturday

Swiss Miss

The next stop on the trip around the interior design world is Switzerland. And first up is a chalet designed by - Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi of MHZ
Once again, I think I love their work! Can't you just imagine looking out the window at a beautiful mountain range or even the Matterhorn?
I find the use of the mirror to divide the kitchen from the entry hall very intriguing.
I like the symmetry of the urns above the cabinets in the kitchen. It has such eye appeal for me.
The muted red of the leather chairs and kitchen walls is re-introduced in the artwork in the seating area, along with a few accessories.

Don't the floating shelves seem to bring a rhythm to the room? I think the artwork on the fireplace reminds me of a cymbal ready to be clanged. - (I have to laugh because now I am thinking of an old Gloria Estefan song- Rhythm is Gonna Get You)

This next home in Switzerland is designed by a firm called Interior Design GMBH . It is a lot more modern than the previous home, but it has a calm, serene feeling to me.

Wouldn't you love to lay on the window ledge and read a good book or take a nap? I like how the subtle color of yellow from the rug is picked up in the pillow covering.

What home doesn't look great with a little zebra print?
