"We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us" Winston Churchill
This quote strikes a chord. How true!
Whether you deliberately choose your surroundings or not- they influence your feelings, moods and attitude. Not making your surroundings pleasant is just as much a choice as taking the time to surround yourself with things in which you find pleasure. Creating a space that makes you feel safe, comfortable, happy and relaxed lets you enjoy your home. The space you create is a reflection of you- witty, charming, solemn, playful, sophisticated, creative with the fun part being the way it will affect others - the way people will feel once inside. Is it inviting, relaxing and comfortable?
That environment will shape your life- Do you feel comfortable enough in your space to invite people into your private world? If the answer is yes, then you already know the benefits of enjoying what you have. It doesn't have to be then most expensive furniture or the latest trend. Truly, it is better if the design has unique quirks to give it character- make it memorable and individualized not cookie cutter. Whatever your choices, you will reap the benefits of living a full and complete life surrounded by friends and family enjoying your home that is absolutely just right for you.
If not get busy, so that you can enjoy all of the joys of entertaining and living your life to the fullest in your own cozy cocoon. If you create a space that reflects who you are- it will envelop your guests with a sense of your genuine being.
So how is your dwelling affecting your life? Positively or Negatively. You can shape the outcome by first shaping your dwelling.

Happy Father's Day!

This table is set in honor of Dad. It is a classic black and white table setting that features masculine characteristics with the iron candelabra, travertine table and croco-imprinted trays . Even the salad plates reflect a masculine quality with their stylized floral design. The flowers were taken from the yard. Simple yet sophisticated. Happy Father's Day Dad!

Natural Inspiration

I love to look at nature for inspiration in selecting colors to use in a room. The best combinations of textures and coloring can be found among God's creations. There is also an abundance of choices from which to be inspired in the woods- Animals, Foliage, Stones, Wood- the list goes on and on.
One of my favorites of God's space has a majestic canopy of beautiful green leaves for it's ceiling with the spanish moss hanging from the branches and the rough textures of the barks on the tree trunks. Looking down at the earth's floor I see the wonderful taupe coloring of mushrooms, auburns of pine needles, rough browns of fallen limbs, and the smooth sleek shades of browns of the rocks in the dirt.
I find this to be one of the most peaceful and tranquil color combinations found in nature and that same feeling is easily transferred into a room with so many choices on the market today.
